A mere ten days after its creation, the Bourgie became a true pop icon, a versatile and eclectic item of furnishing that feels at home among a broad variety of styles. Kartell’s iconic lamp, designed by Ferruccio Laviani in 2004, therefore deserved an international anniversary celebration involving the three symbolic cities of international design: Paris, Milan and New York. Kartell asked 19 creative artists to provide their own personal interpretation of the lamp, either working directly on the product or drawing inspiration from its lines to create a completely different object. From Starck to Lissoni, Patricia Urquiola to Tokujin Yoshioka, and Pharrell Williams, Rafael de Cardenas and avaf, the Bourgie lamp experienced a true metamorphosis, taking on a wide range of shapes as it gave life to 19 unique pieces. These were then exhibited during the Maison&Objet January 2014 fair in the Paris flagship store, followed by the Kartell Museum in Milan during the Salone del Mobile, and finally in Greene Street, the heart of New York design, at the brand’s local store. The project will run until the end of 2014, finishing with a charity auction. So all that remains is to wish Bourgie a very happy birthday!
